Running the Ridge South of Lanai

I’m on the boat’s bridge cruising along Lanai’s southern coast. The sun has just come up and we are fast-trolling (my term) along a deep ridge in the Pacific trying to hook Marlin. In other words we are out for a boat ride.

Of course, yesterday someone caught a 400-pound Marlin… Today, we’ll see… The last time I fished in Hawaii we drove the boat around, had one fish on (not me), lost it, and then went home… Fun, fun, fun… I won’t bother everyone with my typical bad-luck stories… It’s a nice day to be out regardless of how many fish we reel in. Chances are, if we do catch any, it will be one or two big ones. Just one look at these reels and you know we’re not out here trolling for bass.

The trip is winding down with only two nights left. I hate the end of a vacation… Depressing. Back to work. Someday maybe I can make vacation a more permanent situation, but with the economy and my work ethic it might be a few more years. I guess the best thing for now is to live in the moment and wait for that giant fish to hit.

Postscript
The final score from the fishing trip:

  • 6 - # of rods

  • 2 - # of rods for Jeff

  • 0 - # of fish for Jeff

  • 0 - # of fish for boat

  • 0 - # of fish for all boats in Maui

  • 0 - # of bites

  • 0 - # of times Jeff will fish in Hawaii again
  • Yea, another one of those trips. Oh well, I guess you can’t catch them without trying. I don’t think Hawaii is the best place to fish… I guess Cabo (Cabo San Lucas) is better. Maybe we’ll go to Cabo next year (yea right). I did (while waiting for the non-existent fish to bite) find a cool iPhone game. Flick fishing is a good substitute when the real ones fail to hit. Yea, OK, not really. Oh well, what’s another $0.99 to iTunes? I’m sure it adds up. I need to come up with an iPhone application. Hmmm?
