The Aloha Mixed Plate

Aloha from Maui. If you received a postcard from me you know I started them with “Aloha from Maui”. How nice of me. I’m sitting in my $40/day cabana alongside Black Rock in front of the Sheraton. With Beach in front of me, the blue Pacific waters in front of that, and the island of Lanai in the distance there are few better spots to soak up the sun.

It all comes at a price. Along with my $40 cabana I had a $60 breakfast and slept in my $300 room. OK, so the room was only $90 thanks to my Starwood points… I guess traveling for work has some benefits. Anyway, it is damn expensive here on Maui’s Kaanapili Beach.

The reason I called this entry “Aloha Mixed Plate” is in honor of my favorite place in Lahaina of the same name. While it may be $30 for breakfast at the Sheraton, you can get a meal (a good local meal) at the Aloha Mixed Plate for as little as $4. I’d been to the Mixed Plate before so we stopped in yesterday for lunch. Teresa opted for the original “Mixed Plate” with Kalua Pig, Teriyaki Beef, and some other stuff while I tried the Chinese duck. Not bad, not bad… It’s a cool place in a cool setting outside on the deck, under the umbrella, alongside the water. This would make the Aloha Mixed Plate
Jeff’s pick of the day.

This is day three of ten in the islands. It is a nice break from work, yet another remodel, and typical holiday hustle and bustle. I suppose vacation and adventure will become less frequent as I move into March and a new phase in my life. For now I’m happy on the beach, writing in my journal, getting some sun, and inhaling the ocean air. Aloha.
